SEO- Optimisation Importance By: Greg Round, Friday 6 May 2011

DO YOU WANT RESULTS?

In recent weeks I have been coming across more and more sites that seem well constructed sites in general BUT drag their feet in ROI (return on investment) and sales income for the site owners. To get your company in front of your potential market is more important now than ever to achieve market share in a market that has retrenched as it were.

This highlights again the need for SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) ,in particular one of the sites is owned by a Resort based in Northland. This business is going through the usual slow winter tourism months currently but if they wish to utilize their website to it's full potential going into the busy summer season, then now is the time for opitmisation SEO,to get as many hits as possible and therefore sales, through the Search Engine searches from potential guests as they plan their holidays.

This would be a good time to refer to the "Internet Unmasked !!" book written by Dennis A Smith.
In Chapter 31 the book outlines how search engines work and how to improve your sites ranking on search engines like Google. An improved ranking is one important factor in bringing improved results from a web site.

Typical SEO results as described in "Internet Unmasked"
NZ small business with basic SEO only over 6 months-

    Hits up by 160%
    Enquiries up 170%
    Sales up by 120%
    Return on Investment 132%

In one of my earlier companies, in the tourism industry, I spent many thousands of dollars developing a great looking website that was designed to attract overseas tourists to purchase my product upon arriving in New Zealand.
After a dismal trading season I was enlightened by a simple question from my then web site design company .......
" what have you done to market and optimize the site"?
Hmmm I didn't really know how important this was to the success or failure of my business during the peak trading season when the business made most of the profit for the entire year.

A good analogy I was given recently was "it would be like having the best Hotel in the world - in the middle of a desert without telling anyone about it".

There are a few tricks and pitfalls to look out for and the "Internet Unmasked" book highlights some of these on both SEO and marketing of your web site.
I say again ,this book is a must have for anyone who owns or intends to own a website ,it simply takes away much of the geek talk and mystical confusion surrounding the Internet and websites.

The book retails in New Zealand bookshops for $39.95, however I would be delighted to save you $10.00, and send one to you freight free anywhere in New Zealand. Internet UNMASKED!! is also available as a DVD, or DVD Book Combo.

I contacted Greg because a company I had worked for had used this company in the past and found the initial discussions for website possibilities clear and descriptive.
The quotation process ,detail was clearly stated and quickly delivered as well as easy to understand.
After a few weeks ,I now am able to do some changes using the Kwik-Az updating (CMS) system but anybody with a little knowledge on computers , would be able to do the whole lot in a very short time frame, making a saving on ongoing website update costs.

The phone support was very helpful ,Greg went out of his way to provide any service we needed and modified a few things to make our building of the web site a lot easier.
The finished site definitely meets all our requirements and our customers have made comments that it is neat, precise and very easy to navigate.

I have already had a couple of customers ask me the price and how long did it take to put together, they have been very surprised of the well priced system and hours inputed.
