Is On-line selling really worth it?

Many of us using the traditional business model of Shop ,stock and open our doors for business are asking
"Should I sell on-line" is it really worth it?
With the world-wide "slow" down in retail-shop spending, many of these retailers may be wishing they ONLY had an online shop.
Is this on-line form of selling all it is cut up to be?

These forums, when combined with a existing business can save the customer from having to visit a store .
Customers may view the product during a store visit and later simply order and pay online and have it delivered when they are ready with little fuss (For a product, brand or service the customer trusts and is confident in to purchase).

Trade Me / E-bay



When selling in this type of forum, it appears that prices need to be between 50-70% of retail to get any sales on a regular basis.
The overheads of a physical business can be slashed down by utilizing this forum, not necessarily needing a large increase in sales to counter a loss in margin. It makes good business sense.

Utilizing this type of selling forum could be direct competition against your existing wholesale/retail client base. You can work with this without offending your existing client base, by offering online exclusive brand ranges etc. However, long-term, a shift in business strategy would be necessary as one of these methods of selling will probably out-weigh the other in profitability.

Getting Started- there are various levels on online selling from your own site - simply display a product data base or move to a shopping cart or full e-commerce website where the customer chooses the product then sends to a shopping cart and then pays by credit card online through a secure site and gets a confirmation of the sale right there and then.
